Cardiff City, like many other clubs, appear to be very active on the transfer market, and a new striker was on the agenda.
One man the Welsh side decided to try and sign was Sydney van Hooijdonk, currently owned by Bologna, but who will be going to Norfolk at Carrow Road instead.
The news about Cardiff’s attempt to get the Dutchman is brought by Quotidiano Sportivo, who explain the player really wanted a move to Celtic, but that never materialised.
He was also approached by the Championship side, but ‘turned down’ the chances of a move to Cardiff City Stadium.
The Bluebirds are said to have ‘stepped in at the last minute’ to try and get the 23-year-old, but it’s Norwich who will be welcoming him on a loan with an option to buy of around €5m.
A missed opportunity for Cardiff City, who have been relying on the likes of Yakou Meïté up front of late, which is likely why they felt the need to try and bring in a new striker before the transfer window shut.
If there is one, it just won’t be Sydney van Hooijdonk.
