While West Ham United certainly need a new striker, the players they are linked with aren’t exactly out and out goalscorers.
The latest to be added to a list of forwards being sent in the rumour mill to London Stadium is Justin Kluivert, courtesy of Gazzetta dello Sport, who look at what the future may hold for the undesirables at AS Roma.
The Dutchman is one of those, despite a decent season at OGC Nice on loan last season, alongside Jordan Veretout, Gonzalo Villar and Amadou Diawara.
The 23-year-old scored six goals and picked up six assists in 31 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, which evidently caught the eye of West Ham.
The problem for them, regardless of West Ham’s interest, is that ‘no one has managed to pay the €15m or so requested’.
That means that if David Moyes wants to work with Kluivert going forward, he will have to get those above him to open their chequebook a bit more.
This is something the West Ham board appear to be happy to do for the right player, having already bought Nayef Aguerd from Rennes for £31.5m and made Alphonse Aréola’s loan from Paris Saint-Germain permanent for just under £8.5m.
