According to reports in the Dutch media, FC Groningen are closely watching the situation with Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk. The Dutchman is currently training on his own after telling the Premier League side he no longer wants to be there.
De Telegraaf have reported Van Dijk’s former club Groningen can benefit if Southampton sell Van Dijk this summer, after the player began his career with the Dutch club. Groningen will receive a windfall from the sale of the Netherlands international, along with Celtic.
There have been claims Southampton could be holding out for €75m for the central defender, which would give a boost to his two former clubs.
Yesterday Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino said he’s only willing to work with players that are 100% committed to playing for Southampton, and subsequently Van Dijk has been isolated from his squad.
The player could still leave Southampton before the window closes, after being linked with Liverpool earlier this summer.
