Luis Sinisterra left Feyenoord and made a switch to Leeds United in the summer window.
The Colombia international has enjoyed a good start to his life in England and has managed three goals and an assist from eight matches in all competitions this season.
La Tricolor have failed to qualify for the World Cup, and this has allowed them to schedule friendly matches in November and December. They will face Paraguay in the United States next month and the Leeds United summer signing will not be part of this fixture.
Colombia are also in talks with another country to hold a friendly tie during the World Cup break. This is confirmed by the country’s football association president, Ramón Jesurún, to SEMANA.
With regards to Sinisterra’s involvement, SEMANA state Leeds will ‘not give permission’ to the national team to have their player for the upcoming friendly fixtures. There isn’t much the national team can do here since clubs are not obliged to let their players join the national team outside the ‘FIFA dates’.
Over at Win Sport, they also claim that Sinisterra will not be part of the Colombia squad to face Paraguay ‘due to Leeds’ decision’.
Colombia manager Néstor Lorenzo has made it clear Leeds and other clubs have full control on whether or not to let their players join La Tricolor.
“We have very few rehearsals or friendlies to put together the group that is going to play the matches. The game will not be on the FIFA date, so the teams have the power to decide whether to loan the players or not, we are already making arrangements,” Lorenzo said, as quoted by AS.
“The idea is to have the majority that will play the matches. When they offer me a match, I analyse it and try to see which players I can count on. Competing always helps us to see how we are standing and how we are doing with work.”
