Ferran Torres has revealed he knew he would not spend the rest of his career at Manchester City and return to Spain at some point.
The Spanish forward joined Manchester City in a £30m deal from Valencia in August 2020 but would make just 43 appearances in all competitions for the club.
He was a regular under Pep Guardiola and showed impressive development under his leadership to boot but their relationship was brought to an end in January when Barcelona came calling for him.
The Catalan giants moved to secure the Spaniard’s signature as they rebuild under Xavi, paying £49.5m to bring him in from the Etihad.
The move for the youngster came as something of a surprise given he’d barely gotten his feet under the table at City after his move from Valencia.
They had believed the striker was one to keep for the future and develop but instead elected to take the big money offered by Barca and go elsewhere, using those funds to secure the signing of Julian Alvarez.
Torres, though, has admitted he always knew he would end up back in Spain at some point in his career.
“Barça is the best club in the world, everyone knows its history: it always fights for every title,” Mundo Deportivo report him saying.
“When I left Valencia to go to Manchester City, I knew I would come back to play for one of the best teams in La Liga. It was my dream. And it has been fulfilled.
“When the option of Barça came up, from the first moment I said I wanted to come. After a good game against Italy, with the Spanish national team, Mateu Alemany called my agent to tell him that Barça wanted me.
“When I found out, I told my agent that, whatever happened, I had to end up here.”
