Joao Felix has been linked with all the biggest clubs around Europe, and it wouldn’t be too wrong to say Manchester United have been right there at the forefront.
The Premier League club not only scout every Benfica match, but also those of the club’s B team, so they’ll have seen Felix’s progress for a while now.
There’s been countless claims in the Portuguese media about Manchester United interest, and whenever the Italian and Spanish media speaks about links to clubs in those countries, the English side usually gets a mention.
Called up to the latest Portuguese squad, Felix has been speaking to Spanish newspaper Marca, and that inevitably led to talk of interest from other clubs.
Marca asked him about a potential move to United, Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid or Juventus, and the Benfica player made it clear there’s a temptation: “My dream is always to play in the big teams and in the big competitions, but, as I said, I’m here and I’m very happy in Benfica, which, like those teams, is also a big one in Europe.”
Diplomatic, and yet still giving his hint, pretty good media work for a 19 year old.
Then he was asked if he prefers La Liga or the Premier League, and he plumped for Spanish football.
Cristiano Ronaldo would have probably said the same before he moved to Manchester United.
