Long before being signed by Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sport Recife fullback Pedro Lima had been a subject of many headlines in the Brazilian media.

The teenager may have been playing for the second division side, but his potential kept taking him to the national team’s youth ranks and drew attention from European clubs.

Now that his move to Wolves is official, Globo Esporte shares quite a long story about his path to the Premier League, interviewing the people who followed him in his career so far.

Besides talking about his work to get to this level, they show big faith that Lima will succeed at the English club and soon be a starter the national team.

“What we see and hope is that he’ll be our number two at the World Cup. And I think that dream is getting closer,” said his former coach Paulo Mendonça. Lima’s mother, Micheline da Silva Cardoso, also believes that it is a matter of when, not if.

“I said to him: ‘in 2026 you’ll be there at the World Cup and we’ll be cheering’,” she added.

The player himself, speaking in third person, insists he hopes to stay the same.

“May he never lose his essence. May he always be humble, a man of peace, without wanting war with anyone. May he be happy playing football and bringing that Brazilian way to the pitch,” he is quoted as saying.

Wolves are paying Sport Recife €10m to get Lima to Europe this summer. It had been strongly believed that Chelsea would win the race for him, but the Molineux side apparently offered him more chances to play and secured his signature.
