Starting off his career in his home country of Kenya back in 2006 with Nairobi City Stars, Victor Wanyama played in Sweden and Belgium before eventually finding himself at Celtic in Scotland.

The defensive midfielder, who arrived from Beerschot AC for under £1m, spent two years at Parkhead, where he developed into a player Southampton felt was good enough to spend £13m on.

During those couple of seasons, Wanyama imposed himself as a solid player, but also one capable of scoring the odd goal, bagging 13 in 91 appearances for Celtic, as well as picking up nine assists.

Out of those, however, if he could pick one, it would probably be his header against Barcelona in the Champions League.

Arriving at the back post, Wanyama out jumped Jordi Alba to score the first of what would be a memorable night for Neil Lennon’s men, who walked away with a 2-1 win over Lionel Messi and co.

Speaking to La Press in Canada, where he now plays for Montréal Impact, the player reminisced: “Scoring against Barcelona, it was my dream come true. After the goal, I ran towards the corner, but then I saw the fans.

“They were literally coming towards the pitch. I told myself ‘oh, oh, they’re coming towards me, they’re going to follow me’. So I changed directions and returned towards the goal. I was under shock. It was really a nice moment”.

After his move to Southampton, Wanyama ended up at Tottenham three years later where he stayed until March 3rd of this year, when a free transfer to North America was arranged.

Still, he’ll always have that moment at Parkhead, and the Celtic fans will always remember him for it.
