“It will be very difficult, but we really hope he stays”.
That’s all you can hear in Dortmund when the topic of Michy Batshuayi is brought up, according to Het Nieuwsblad.
After all, why wouldn’t they want him to stay, with the Chelsea loanee thoroughly enjoying life at his new club, even if the goals have dried up a little bit in the league since his first two appearances.
The Belgian newspaper dedicate a two page spread to the “Michy Mania” over the weekend that is sweeping through the streets of the German city, and it stems from not just his footballing ability, but also his personality off the pitch.
His Instagram, his Twitter, everything that makes him a ‘funny guy’, endears him even more to his fans, and makes him a ‘dream come true’ for local newspapers, but the question is how long will this last for them?
As Het Nieuwsblad put it, with every ball the 24-year-old puts in the back of the net, he becomes more expensive, and if Dortmund cannot afford him come the end of the season, someone else might be able to.
A lot depends on whether or not Antonio Conte stays on, but as things stand, that seems unlikely.
We’ve said it many times before, and we’ll keep saying it: whoever replaces the Italian would be crazy not to give the Belgium international, whose sole aim is to make that plane to Russia in the summer, a proper go at Stamford Bridge.
If he doesn’t, then perhaps Dortmund will be able to sort something out, but it’ll come at a price.
Then again, if ‘Michy Mania’ continues, it might be worth it in the long run.
