Having turned down the chance to manage Manchester United, Zinédine Zidane has opened the door for Paris Saint-Germain, who could lose Mauricio Pochettino to the Red Devils.
The two men are closely linked these days, as the departure of the Argentine for Old Trafford would see the Ligue 1 side move for the former Real Madrid manager, who is currently without a job and waiting for the right time to return to football.
It’s been made clear that he would only want one of two jobs as things stand, with one being the France national team and the other, potentially, Paris Saint-Germain.
Multiple sources in France have suggested that Manchester United and Pochettino are already in talks for the ex-Tottenham manager to jump ship midway through the season to redress the situation in the north of England, which has led the French club to fully turn their attention to Zidane.
Marca corroborate these claims, echoing what Le Parisien stated of PSG meeting the Frenchman ‘on one occasion’, and the Spanish newspaper add details, stating ‘it was in Paris and Zizou met with Nasser Al-Khelaïfi’.
That’s quite the summit, and while Manchester United wanting Pochettino has ‘put the former Real Madrid coach back in the orbit of Qatar, it’s no less true that they have been working on it for a long time, and that, now more than ever, they think the dream can come true’.
Furthermore, PSG ‘have been preparing for a possible Pochettino departure for some time’, where his situation ‘does not seem ideal’.
This is all good news for Manchester United, who appear keen to bring in the Argentine to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
