There we were. All ready to write a final Juan Foyth to Tottenham, a final goodbye to Spurs’ chance of signing the player, and Foyth’s chance of getting his dream transfer.
Then, something didn’t quite look right. On Thursday El Dia headlined with ‘Foyth to France’ and there’s quite some difference today, it says ‘Foyth to England’.
El Dia have said, for what feels like weeks, that Foyth much prefers a move to Tottenham, who had previously been in talks, over PSG, who agreed a deal with Estudiantes.
A chat with Mauricio Pochettino, which seems an increasingly used and very potent transfer tactic, had left Foyth convinced about a Tottenham role.
Tottenham have now, according to El Dia, surpassed PSG’s offer, at €13m, with El Dia clearing €10.5m from that immediately.
A quick response is required by Tottenham, but Juan Sebastián Verón is in China, yet it could still come ‘in a few hours’.
With Foyth’s preference being Tottenham, then they get the deal even if their offer simply matches that of PSG.
This all sounds like wonderful news for Foyth, unless Tottenham, frustrated with the Davinson Sanchez talks early on Thursday, threw in an offer just to back themselves up.
That would be cruel luck for the young Argentine defender.
