The struggles of Aston Villa goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini have been well documented since his loan to Atalanta in the last window. The 22-year-old has played just one game for the Serie A side since arriving in January expecting to play, and his situation could get worse.
Last month we covered reports from Italy that Gollini could be installed as Atalanta’s first choice next season because the Italian side were stalling over the signing of Etrit Berisha. The Albania international is currently on loan with Atalatna, and has been the club’s No.1 goalkeeper since Gollini joined the club from Aston Villa.
The Bergamo club aren’t sure about paying Lazio’s asking price to make the deal permanent, but there could be a way around this. TMW have reported Lazio are keen on Atalanta forward Andrea Petagna, which could broker a deal for Berisha to head the other way. Atalanta value Petagna in the region of €15m, and this would help them complete a deal for Berisha.
This will come as a blow to Gollini, who was expected to be installed as Atalanta’s goalkeeper when he joined from Aston Villa, but has had to watch from the bench. The youngster was first demoted by Steve Bruce at Aston Villa, and then sent out on loan for a season and a half.
