When a club is chasing a player and this player gets an offer to renew his contract, it’s normally bad news for those who wanted to buy him. But that’s not Chelsea’s situation with Kalidou Koulibaly.

Sportitalia (via Calcio Mercato) claimed on Saturday that Napoli offered Koulibaly a deal of around €2m per season to stay at the club.

The problem is that Chelsea, the side who have been strongly linked to the defender, have reportedly offered double that. This is one of the reasons why the player isn’t so eager to renew with Napoli.

If we considered that a few months ago he was already far from reaching a new deal with the Italian club, this offer seems quite discouraging for all those who expected him to stay.

Koulibaly’s contract at Napoli expires in 2019, but the club are desperate to extend it so they can protect him from the interest of others.
