This month, we’ve seen a couple of reports from the German media claiming Newcastle United are one of the clubs who are interested in the signing of Jeremiah St. Juste.
Always referring to the defender as the ‘fastest player in Bundesliga’, local reports said the Magpies already tried to sign him in January and should make a new attempt in the summer window.
Now today, we get to see claims from the Portuguese press saying the race for the Newcastle target is about to get bigger.
Newspaper A Bola comes up to claim that Sporting are interested in signing St. Juste in the summer, and currently prepare an offer worth €7.5m for the transfer.
The Lions, however, are just probing the ground for the signing.
Because according to the report, they already know that won’t be enough for the purchase, with Mainz demanding ‘double-digit amounts’ of at least €10m plus performance bonuses.
A Bola points out there’s some ‘distance’ between the asking price and what Sporting want to spend, and the Lisbon side will try to solve that in the upcoming talks.
So in case there’s indeed a battle between them and Newcastle for the signing in the summer, that’s undoubtedly an advantage the Magpies have in the auction, as their current financial situation certainly doesn’t let them struggle with a cheap operation like this.
