When players and their agents start getting angry at a club, you know the transfer window is well and truly underway.
One of the bright lights in an otherwise dull affair during the Euro finals, Moussa Sissoko has seen his value skyrocket up to £35m as Newcastle try and hold onto their new prized asset.
Speaking to L’Equipe on Tuesday morning, the player said that he hoped his move would happen as soon as possible, regardless of the transfer fee.
While the player himself doesn’t seem to care how much he costs, his agent most certainly does as Newcastle’s demands are currently a hindrance to his plans and that of his client.
In an interview with FootMercato, he said: “We don’t understand. We agreed Moussa would stay one more season to help the team, which he did as best he could. There was never a case for a bigger clause. They always said he could leave for somewhere between €18-25m (£15.2-21.1m).
“We hope Rafael Benitez and the president will agree to return to more reasonable demands to talk about Moussa’s future. He’s always been loyal, always respected the club and the fans. There are club who have come to us and the club. We’re fully aware of their advances. We just want everything to go well.”
Following a rather mediocre season for the player, Newcastle are clearly riding the wave of his Euro final performance to fill their coffers as they prepare for a season in the Championship.
This could drag on for quite some time, and fully expect some more choice words from both player and agent in the French media in weeks to come if the Geordie club remain stubborn.
