Denmark have a new wonder kid and they’re very excited about it indeed. Middlesbrough’s Viktor Fischer knows all about being in that position, so is well placed to offer experience and advice.

The latest next big thing is 19 year old Kasper Dolberg, with the Ajax forward called up to the latest Denmark squad and all set to make his international debut. The Danish media are falling over themselves with praise for Dolberg, and he’s been dominating the sport sections.

In one of the many Dolberg features, Fischer has been asked by Tipsbladet for his opinion on the whole thing, and was typically honest and interesting.

The Middlesbrough player explained: “Christian (Eriksen) has been dubbed the new Michael Laudrup, I have been dubbed the new Michael Laudrup, and Kasper Dolberg has been dubbed the new Michael Laudrup. At the end of the day, it is all really uninteresting, and a good indication that there is no reason to listen to all that shit.”

Fischer was hugely hyped as a youngster, and has already spoken during the current international break about the mindset it got him in, perhaps believing things would come easier than they did.

A bad injury halted Fischer’s progression, but he’s determined to get back on track at Middlesbrough. At just 22 years of age himself, there’s still plenty of time to become the hero Denmark are crying out for.
