Wolverhampton Wanderers took Romain Saïss from French side Angers in 2016 when they were in the Championship.

The 30-year-old was one of the prominent figures in helping Wolves return to the top flight in 2018.

In his first season in the Premier League, the defender made only 12 league starts, but that didn’t stop the Wanderers from offering him a new deal.

Saïss last signed an extension in February 2019 and his current deal runs down at the end of this season.

During an interview with France Football, Nuno Espírito Santo’s man admitted he needs to make the right choice for his career, taking his family into consideration.

“The pitch is the most important, especially with the situation a little complicated. But of course, these are questions that will be asked,” he said.

“At 30, it’s really a turning point, you have to make the best possible decision not only for me, but also for my wife and my children.

“I have always wanted to play in this championship. I feel good in this new life. My children also have the opportunity to learn English, something wonderful for them, it will be useful to them in their future.

“I don’t know what can happen tomorrow… We will try to reverse the trend [Wolves recent form] to find the path to victory and for the rest, I leave that to my agents.”

Raúl Jiménez fractured his skull in his side’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal at the end of November and has been sidelined since then. Wolves have struggled in the league and have managed only one win in the Mexican’s absence.

Saïss admitted Wolves are currently missing Jiménez’s goal scoring threat on the pitch.

“We are not going to hide: of course, Raùl was a big loss for us. He was the goalscorer of the team, he scored most of the goals,” the player explained.

“You have little Fabio Silva who entered in his place, he does good things but we must not forget that he is only 18 years old and that he has just arrived from Porto… not easy to take on the role that Raùl had.”
