Kristoffer Ajer was taken off the pitch during Celtic’s 2-2 draw against Lille due to a groin strain.

That was on October 29th, and two days later, there were concerns in Norway over the Hoops defender’s availability for November’s international break.

There was a sigh of relief when the centre-back started for Celtic in their league win over Motherwell on Sunday.

Ajer, however, was replaced in the second half. After the tie, Neil Lennon confirmed the 22-year-old suffered a recurrence of the groin injury and will be doubtful to represent his national team during the ongoing international break.

“He felt it at half-time and battled on with it, but he couldn’t continue. He will be a doubt for Norway, I would imagine,” Lennon was quoted as saying by the Daily Record.

Norway take on Israel, Romania and Austria before the end of next week. Despite Lennon’s comments, VG claims Lars Lagerbäck hasn’t ‘given up hope’ of having Ajer representing his country this month.

Ajer will be examined by the national team and Lagerbäck provided an update on his injury on Monday.

“We don’t know for sure. We’ve only had verbal contact so far. We don’t know how serious it is. He’s not completely negative himself, but couldn’t play a game today at least,” Lagerbäck said, as reported by VG.
