Unable to convince Mikel Arteta at Arsenal despite being, for the time being, the club’s most expensive transfer of all time, Nicolas Pépé is going to return to the Gunners.
What happens after that remains to be seen, but it’s clear that his future will be away from the Emirates after a rather disappointing spell in the south of France.
Many thought this would be the perfect move for the Arsenal player to get his career back on track, but it wasn’t to be, and the player discussed his future with Colinterview on YouTube, where he tried his best to answer the tricky question.
He said: “Because I was loaned with a loan without an option to buy, I have to go back to Arsenal. After that, we don’t know. Go back there, see, speak with the manager and everyone to see everyone’s ideas, and only then make a decision.”
Unless something has drastically changed in the mind of Arteta, the best scenario for all involved will have to be a parting of ways this summer, as the 28-year-old only has one year left on his Arsenal contract.
While the forward did score eight goals and picked up one assist in 28 games in all competitions this season, a few of those were penalties.
