On Monday, we covered reports from Spain which explained how Jorge Mendes has masterminded a deal to take Fer López from Celta Vigo to Wolves.

The 21-year-old has a €20m release clause which rises to €40m when he is officially promoted to the first team. Despite making his debut, the official process of changing his registration hasn’t happened yet, allowing Wolves to get in there early.

However, Wolves don’t want to pay the fee in one go, and therefore Mendes has arranged a deal which sees them pay €25m but spread across instalments.

Not everyone around Celta Vigo has reacted positively to the impending move, and that prompted the player’s entourage to leak their side to the media. The gist was it isn’t the player’s fault, he hasn’t tried to find a new club, it’s more that the club wants to sell him because they need money quickly.

There’s obviously quite some drama around the situation, and when Celta Vigo manager Claudio Giráldez appeared at an event today, he was inevitably asked about it all.

Marca quote him as saying: “I’ll talk about it calmly when preseason starts, but I think we all have to learn from the past and don’t jump to conclusions before things are done and finalised.”
