PSG knew they wanted to sign a midfielder ahead of the January transfer window, and now almost halfway through it they seem no closer to actually getting their man.

The problem is that clubs aren’t simply playing ball the way the French champions would like them to and that seems to be causing some irritation, even among the press closest to PSG.

On Thursday, L’Equipe branded Everton ‘greedy’ for asking €45m to part ways with Idrissa Gueye this month. On Friday, Le Parisien did exactly the same thing, using the same ‘greedy’ word, but this time putting the figure at €40m.

Another option for the Ligue 1 side is Abdoulaye Doucouré, yet Watford are hardly going to be any more helpful than Everton.

Journalist Loïc Tanzi has been speaking on RMC, and Le10 Sport have picked up his quotes revealing what a Hornets source has explained about their midfielder: “Watford assures us that there is no contact with PSG. Watford even tells us that, ideally, they don’t want PSG to ever contact them because if PSG arrives, it will be difficult to retain Doucouré.”

It won’t be that difficult, just say no, or be ‘greedy’.
