Sevilla have opened talks with Arsenal over a loan deal for Albert Sambi Lokonga as they desperately seek to strengthen their midfield before the start of pre-season.

That’s according to Vamos Mi Sevilla, who report that the Spanish side need to find a new addition soon and the 24-year-old is the man they’re currently focused on.

They explain that the Sevilla squad currently only has Djibril Sow, Joan Jordan and youngster Manu Bueno as options in midfield and Jordan is a player they are keen to move on anyway.

Thus, director of football Victor Orta has work to do and he’s turned his attention to the English market, which he knows well from his time at Leeds, to try and solve the situation.

Talks with Arsenal have been opened over a loan deal for Lokonga, who spent this season on loan with Luton Town and the previous campaign with Crystal Palace.

Neither of those loans have particularly worked out and Orta is hoping to take advantage of that and make it third time lucky at Sevilla. The idea is that he could ‘relaunch’ his career in Spain, away from the Premier League.

Whether Arsenal will sanction another loan isn’t mentioned, though. They may be hesitant to do so given the previous two loans and want a permanent exit for the Belgian.

Orta is in talks with them regardless as he looks at the cheap option to strengthen a very weak spot in Sevilla’s squad.
