Mike Ashely recently sold Newcastle United and the Tyneside club’s new owners, with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund [PIF] having the biggest share, can be ‘very ambitious’ for the future.
As a part of restructuring the club, Foot Mercato stated on Monday the Magpies are targeting Antero Henrique for the director of football post.
It was even explained the former Paris Saint-Germain chief had ‘first contact’ with PIF representatives.
Le10 Sport contacted two sources close to the Portuguese man and have been informed Henrique is ‘listening’, but there is ‘nothing concrete on the table’ at the moment.
Although there isn’t anything firm, the 53-year-old is ‘indeed’ in consideration of the new owners. If he were to land the director’s job at St James’ Park, André Villas-Boas would become one of the managerial targets for Henrique.
The two are ‘very close’ and the former Tottenham Hotspur manager can be a ‘perfect match’ for ‘what Antero Henrique seeks and enjoys’.
Antonio Conte and Lucien Favre have also been linked to Newcastle, but Le10 have had no information about the concrete contacts with these two coaches.
They even state: ‘A source even claims that Antonio Conte has not discussed the Newcastle project with anyone, even by phone’.
