Towards the end of the European transfer window, a rumour emerged in France that Anderlecht, scrambling around at the last-minute for a striker, had made a move for Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi.

The player hasn’t really been in Frank Lampard’s plans so far this season other than coming off the bench for six minutes against Sheffield United, and a move away might have been best for all involved.

However, the player took to social media to set the record straight, sending a rather clear message to those who published the story.

Despite France Football standing by their story, Anderlecht’s director of football Michael Verschueren has dismissed the idea they were interested in the Chelsea striker.

In quotes relayed by La Capitale, he said: “His wages were unattainable, even for Brugge who are in the Champions League. It wasn’t something we were looking at”.

That means Michy Batshuayi will now have to fight for a starting spot at Stamford Bridge, trying to overtake the likes of Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham, with the latter clearly Lampard’s favourite so far.
