There’s few tales as depressingly sad as the one of Jean-Philippe Gbamin at Everton, something his agent is keen to make everyone aware of it seems.

Bernard Collignon has been speaking to Fussball Transfers regarding his client, who is currently a free agent after leaving Everton this summer.

His time at Goodison Park was a miserable one to say the least, with him managing just a handful of appearances for the club as several injuries meant he could never prove to be worthy of the €25m outlay on him.

He’s currently looking for a new club after several unsuccessful loan spells away from Everton, who, at least according to his agent, are partly to blame for his current situation.

He explains that just before the midfielder joined Everton, he played with the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations.

He was then given a two-week break before moving to Goodison Park on August 2nd before then being a part of the squad eight days later without ‘intensive preparation’.

That played it’s part and thanks to ‘early overload’ he suffered a serious thigh injury, a ‘disaster’ of an injury that meant Gbamin had to go under the knife and spend months on the sidelines.

After four of those the ‘pressure’ increased on the player and Everton tried to rush him back to help for a push for Europe. As it turned out, that was a major mistake as the midfielder began training too early and tore his hamstring once again.

Another operation, this time in London, followed but thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic the correct treatment was not available according to Collignon.

Gbamin had aimed to get back on track under Carlo Ancelotti but then tore his Achilles tendon while playing tennis with his colleagues. That left him out of action for a year and saw his happiness at Everton disappear.

That is what led to various loan deals and there was a possibility of a return to Hertha in January, when he was already at Trabzonspor, but Everton ‘stood in the way’ of that.

Another year at Goodison Park was not an option and so he and the club agreed to terminate his deal his deal 20 minutes before the transfer window shut on deadline day.

He can now join whoever he likes on a free transfer and discussions are underway with clubs from Italy, Spain, Germany and France according to FT’s information.

The midfielder ‘doesn’t want to go back to England’, though, with his ‘horror’ spell at Everton enough to seemingly put him off the country for life.
