The name of Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho suddenly became a controversial topic in the Argentine media.
The reason for that is the possible inclusion of his name in their World Cup list, which will be made official on the 14th of November.
There have been suggestions that following a promising spell with Manchester United, Garnacho could be in the squad. He was actually born in Spain, and only played for Argentina’s U20 because of his family’s background.
So on TyC Sports (via La Nacion), Ariel Rodriguez claimed that the winger could be a good name for the call-up, especially in case Paulo Dybala isn’t physically ready for the tournament in Qatar.
“I don’t have doubts. I’m going straight to England, Manchester United. I imagine Garnacho.”
“Please. He has one and a half games in the first division.”
Then he claimed that Garnacho ‘doesn’t know Argentina’, as he only spent ‘a day of vacation’ there, and there’s the ‘lack of Argentinity’ in him. He then used a few examples of things and places that any tourist who goes to Buenos Aires would know a little about.
“He does not speak Spanish, he does not know dulce de leche, he never used a birome, he does not know the ‘Caminito’, he does not know the 9th of July, and third, the most important thing: he said that his idol is Cristiano Ronaldo. How is he going to say that? He didn’t understand anything. Messi plays in the Argentine national team.”
Born in Spain, Garnacho obviously speaks Spanish. But Glait then explained that isn’t the same Spanish they speak in Argentina.
“Let’s not make trout because the grandmother’s grandmother is Argentine. If we have too many players. And I don’t like the last name.”
“He speaks a language that is not ours, he doesn’t say ‘che’, he doesn’t say ‘chabón’ and he doesn’t eat choripán.”
