Facing the media with the Belgium national team, Leandro Trossard was braced for questions about what Eden Hazard had recently said about him.
The Brighton & Hove Albion star had been a topic of discussion with the Real Madrid player, who admitted the Seagulls man probably deserved to start ahead of him in the World Cup, even if he would rather be playing.
THere’s no denying Trossard’s form for the Amex side this season, as the Belgian has imposed himself under both Graham Potter and Roberto De Zerbi so far.
He has scored in huge games for the club, and currently holds a record of seven goals and three assists in 14 games for Brighton in the current campaign.
He’s one of the reasons the Seagulls are doing so well in the Premier League, and that’s why Roberto Martínez will be likely to use him a lot in the upcoming international tournament.
The Belgium squad’s next hurdle to overcome is a friendly against Egypt on Friday, which Trossard will be expected to feature in, although whether it’s from the start remains to be seen.
Asked about Hazard saying that he deserves to start, the Brighton man said, relayed by Sud Info: “That’s good, but he doesn’t make the choices, it’s the national team manager.”
He also added, in quotes relayed by RTL: “I’m ready. I’ve shown that in the last few months, I’m playing very well at the moment and I think it’s good for the team. The more fit players there are, the better. I’m ready to play the minutes I’m given, but it’s up to the coach.”
