In the past few weeks, we saw West Ham United failing to sign Yuri Alberto from Corinthians.
Following the Brazilian club’s decision to reject the Hammers’ bid, it was even said they trust his market value will go up in the future, as he’s not having a good spell of form right now.
With Corinthians losing to Fortaleza on Thursday evening, pundit Neto went crazy with Yuri Alberto’s performances. His quotes are now relayed by ESPN.
“Yuri Alberto is an awful player. It’s amazing how he doesn’t know how to play football. It’s almost absurd to say this, but he doesn’t have basic skills at 22 years old,” said Neto.
“He doesn’t control, he doesn’t have a good pass, he loses every ball, he doesn’t protect the ball. He had a ball on the counterattack that hit the crossbar and went to Corinthians. He controlled and gave the ball to the defender. He’s a good boy, he’s young, he runs… but he’s not fit to play ball.”
Back in the final week of the transfer window, it had been claimed that West Ham wanted to pay €18m for the signing, and Corinthians wanted at least €25m to see him gone.
Even though it had been said that the Hammers continued the talks for the signing, it seems the increased bid was never made, and David Moyes’ side gave up on the transfer.
Yuri Alberto is indeed having a poor season, with ten goals in 48 games so far. So at the end of the day, West Ham probably have a reason not to be disappointing for having missed out on that signing.
