Raul Jimenez made his comeback for Mexico this week.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers star hadn’t featured for his country since November 2020, prior to the head injury which left him out for nearly nine months.
With Jimenez being the biggest star in Mexico’s national team, there was a big expectation about his return, especially after he was blocked by Wolves from joining them in the last international break.
The comeback happened last night, with Mexico having a 1-1 draw against Canada in Concacaf’s World Cup Qualifiers, and the 30-year-old playing for the whole game.
Not only Raul, but his family were pretty happy with that as well. That’s why his father was present at the Azteca Stadium and had a chat with the local media about it.
“Imagine, for everyone it was something very, very difficult, very sad,” Raul Jimenez Viega told ESPN (via Infobae).
“But there are hazards of the job and we always trust God, in Raul’s strength to get him through. When he called me from England and I listened to him, I knew he was coming back and always keeping him strong. Always with the winning mentality that he’s had and that helped a lot.
“We didn’t even think that football was over, the doctors did say so, but both he and I talked a lot, we were confident. A skull fracture is not easy at all, but fortunately today there are the results.”
Mexico now play Honduras on Sunday and El Salvador on Wednesday. Jimenez then returns to England where Wolves face Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday.
