West Ham United aren’t going to sign Brian Brobbey from Ajax this summer, and any claims about Everton are being laughed off as well.
That’s the latest from Soccer News, who cover comments from analysts Johan Derksen and René van der Gijp on the striker today.
They both ‘see absolutely nothing’ in the Ajax forward, who has had a disappointing season for the Dutch side this year.
There had been hope that the 23-year-old would build on his 22 goals and 11 assists in 43 games last season but instead he’s managed just seven goals and six assists in 44 games this season.
Those numbers have put an end to any transfer speculation for the time being, with suitors seemingly walking away.
Brobbey was heavily linked with moves last summer, with Manchester United keen and Everton also credited with an interest too.
There was also a late January transfer flirtation with West Ham United, who were believed to be keen as they look for a long-term replacement for Michail Antonio. Brobbey even travelled to London at one point, although it was insisted that had nothing to do with a move to West Ham.
Now neither they or Everton seem keen and both Derksen and Van der Gijp can’t see that changing any time soon.
“Are there many clubs that say: ‘Brobbey, four goals. That’s exactly what we need,” Van der Gijp is quoted as saying.
“I really don’t believe that. Do you believe that? That West Ham United and those clubs want that? No, of course not.”
“Then there are also people who dare to sell that he is a good striker. A striker who does not score can of course never be a good one,” Derksen added when asked about talk of a €40m move to Everton.
