On deadline day, Le Havre made a late attempt to sign Malang Sarr signed from Chelsea.
With the defender not getting any playing time with the Blues this season, that seemed like a simple operation to give the 25-year-old some minutes on the pitch, either on a loan or a permanent move.
However, it was today reported that the deal collapsed due to Sarr’s lack of agreement with Chelsea for the departure. Now Paris Normandie features strong quotes from Le Havre on the situation.
“They are the directors of the club with six English league titles, now owned by the American Todd Boehly. With just a few details still to be worked out, they did a U-turn. They gave the youngster the go-ahead to travel, and a financial agreement had been reached for the eighteen months of his remaining contract at Chelsea.”
“However, on several occasions, they went back on their agreement, and then gave it again. And once the player had agreed to make a big effort, to come to us on a tiny salary, just to play football, they blocked him. Everything was OK, the contract had even been submitted to the League (LFP), but we never received Chelsea’s cancellation. Sarr’s contract with Chelsea runs until 2025, and it’s really difficult to imagine what the Blues intend by keeping the player in their squad.
The lack of a single minute on the pitch this season would’ve been enough for most clubs to find a solution for that player in January, but something convinced the Stamford Bridge side to keep him, as he continues to lose value while out of the team.
