Liverpool have opened talks to renew Ibrahima Konaté’s contract at the club, according to claims from France.
Le10Sport feature an exclusive story claiming that the 24-year-old and his agent have just started negotiations for an extension.
It’s said there’s no ’emergency’, since his current deal expires in 2026, but still, the ‘discussions have started’ so a deal can be agreed by the end of the season.
The story claims that’s a way for Liverpool to ‘reward’ Konaté at the same time as protecting their player against any future interest from other clubs.
As an example of that, Le10Sport recall recent rumours about Paris Saint Germain’s interest in the player, who even teased over that move when speaking to the French media.
That’s why Liverpool want him well protected with a new deal, although it’s not year clear what will be the new expiry date.
Signed from RB Leipzig in a €40m deal in 2021, Konaté has made 68 appearances for the Reds, and has been in and out of Jurgen Klopp’s starting lineup this season.
He’s currently valued by Transfermarkt at €38m.
