Gabriel Martinelli signed for Arsenal in the last transfer window as the forward moved to the Emirates from Brazilian side Ituano FC.
The 18-year-old has starred for the Gunners in the first matches he’s played for them, scoring seven goals in nine matches.
Friday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo states the Brazil U23 international has ‘exploded’ at the north London club under Unai Emery’s guidance, which has seen him receive praise from Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp.
The Catalan newspaper are covering the teenager because Barcelona had an opportunity to sign him earlier this year.
Prior to joining Arsenal, Martinelli had trails at Manchester United and with the La Liga winners.
He trained with the Blaugrana’s youth team only once (Juvenil A and B team) in January, but Barca decided against betting on the young talent.
Martinelli’s progression at Arsenal has resulted ‘discomfort’ within the technical leaders at Camp Nou for not signing a player who was ‘within reach’.
Clearly Barcelona are ‘upset’ with themselves for not signing Martinelli.
