Patrick Roberts picking up an injury in the Copa del Rey last week was a cruel twist of fate for the Manchester City owned player.
He’d gone through a difficult start to his loan period at Girona, not getting the minutes needed, and the switch looked to be a failure.
But injury to Portu changed everything, and Roberts hugely impressed when given the chance. He caused serious problems for Atletico Madrid’s defence, and had the Spanish media falling over themselves to praise him.
Things were looking very good indeed, so an injury, coincidentally just as Portu was himself returning, is a blow.
Catalan newspaper Sport report Roberts has an injury in the ‘femoral biceps of his right leg’ (hamstring) which will see him out of action for eight to ten weeks.
Sport believe it’s just the type of luck which the club brings: ‘ If you want to become a subscriber, partner or a simple fan of Girona, you must take a master’s degree in patience and be prepared for everything… obstacles, setbacks of all kinds, bad luck and worse news.’
It’s explained the injury has come at the worst time for player and club, as he’s set to miss a packed schedule in January.
