Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta has admitted his side were disappointment after failing to sign Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku in the last window.
After struggling to impress for the Blues during the 2021/22 season, the striker joined the Serie A side on loan last season. The 30-year-old was expected to return to the San Siro but the deal collapsed after the two clubs had reportedly reached an agreement.
Marotta was a guest on Rai Radio 1’s Radio Anch’io Sport, where he discussed several topics, including the Chelsea owned player. His quotes are relayed by Corriere dello Sport.
“Lukaku? We were disappointed, given the relationship that existed. But it’s now part of the past and we were good at finding alternatives. Inter continues to move forward,” he said.
The Nerazzurri bolstered their attack by adding Marcus Thuram, Marko Arnautović and Alexis Sánchez to their squad.
After a failed move to Inter, Lukaku was linked to Juventus. A move to the Turin club also didn’t materialise before AS Roma signed the Belgium international on a loan deal towards the end of the last window.
The Chelsea man has had a good start to the season at Roma, scoring three goals from four games.
