Way back at the start of September it was reported in Italy that Tottenham had made a move to loan Andrea Belotti from Torino. Spurs wanted a buying option included in the temporary deal, which would have seen them be able to make the move permanent for €50m.

Of course, given that was just going to be an option it meant nothing in reality. Even if Belotti had impressed for Jose Mourinho’s side, it’s almost certain the Premier League club would have tried to bring the amount down.

Had Belotti not done well then Torino would have loaned out their captain only to see him return devalued. It just wasn’t going to happen, and would have created huge trouble for the Turin club.

Fans simply wouldn’t have accepted their club captain and idol being sent away on loan, and Tottenham must surely have realised this.

Corriere Torino quote the Serie A club’s sporting director Davide Vagnati as saying about the Spurs approach: “If they had serious intentions they would have presented themselves with other arguments.”

Vagnati now wants Belotti to stay with Torino for life, and unless a club such as Juventus come in at some point, that doesn’t seem a too unrealistic prospect. The 26-year-old is clearly happy with his life in Turin and role with the club, so a renewal is likelier than an exit.
