The technical director of Roda JC has told the Dutch media the deal to sign youngsters from Tottenham Hotspur on loan was always going to fail under the previous coach. In 2015 the two clubs formed a partnership, but not one Tottenham player was sent to the Dutch side.
Voetbal Primeur have reported on comments Ton Caanen made when he asked if Roda still had a relationship with Tottenham. Caanen revealed he still speaks to the Premier League side, but with regards to failing to bring in players he blamed Roda’s former coach Darije Kalezić.
The Roda director said that under Kalezić Tottenham weren’t sure about sending their youngsters to play as there was a concern they wouldn’t get much playing time.
“The fact is a collaboration with Tottenham was doomed to fail with him. The people of Tottenham felt no click and wondered if their players would play. I still have frequent contact with the people of Tottenham,” said the Roda director.
In the past few seasons the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City have been sending their young players to Holland to get first team experience, but few players have returned to make it in the senior team.
Chelsea have been questioned for the number of players they’ve sent to Vitesse in the past few seasons with only Bertrand Traore making any kind of breakthrough into the first team at Stamford Bridge.
Given the ongoing contact between the two clubs there’s every chance the loan arrangement could be revived.
