Sebastiano Esposito is having a good season at Serie A side Empoli and it has now emerged that the striker could have ended up at Chelsea.
The Italian has found the back of the net eight times in the league this season. While he is currently on loan from Inter Milan, Empoli have the option to buy the forward permanently in the summer.
The 22-year-old has had a topsy turvy journey in the game and not too long ago, he was also loaned out to Basel and Anderlecht.
Danilo Pagni, who has worked as a sporting director at many Italian clubs and also deals in players, has now revealed that he attempted to send Esposito to Chelsea not too long ago.
In a chat with Nicolo Schira, he stated that the approach was made through intermediaries but a move never went through.
“All true. I proposed Sebastiano to Chelsea through an agent who works in England (Roberto De Fanti). Sebastiano is a pure talent. However, he must play closer to the goal, not like at Sampdoria who travelled too many kilometres. Players must be used in their role.”
The former Italy U21s man had shown a lot of promise during his teenage years at Inter. Despite constant loan moves across Europe, he has proved himself by scoring goals regularly.
This suggests that perhaps, Esposito could have been a good signing for Chelsea. Considering the Blues’ own habits of loaning out youngsters all over Europe, the striker could have found himself in a similar situation as he is in now.
