Tottenham Hotspur started the 2020/21 season with only Harry Kane as a recognised striker in the squad and even before their campaign started, José Mourinho asked the north London club to bring in a backup for the England international.

Spurs fulfilled their manager’s wish by signing Carlos Vinícius on a loan deal from Benfica on October 2nd, and the Premier League side reportedly retain an option to make the 25-year-old’s deal permanent next summer.

Prior to the Brazilian’s arrival, Tottenham were linked with a handful of strikers across Europe and one of them was Torino star Andrea Belotti.

Davide Vagnati, the Serie A side’s technical director has now confirmed the Premier League club contacted Torino for the Italy international.

“Belotti? I would like him to stay at Torino for life because he has all the values to be a mainstay and I hope he ends his career at Torino,” Vaganti told Sky Sport, as quoted by Toro News.

“There was a chat with Tottenham for him, but nothing serious because if Tottenham had really wanted to take him, they would have arrived with different arguments.”

Belotti finished the season with 22 goals and four assists for Torino, while Carlos Vinícius ended the previous campaign with 24 goals and 13 assists in all competitions.
