IFK Göteborg sporting director Mats Gren has told the Swedish media Watford target Pontus Dahlberg wants to remain with the club at least until the summer.
The 18 year old has been linked with a move to Watford in recent weeks, following reports his agent held talks with the Premier League side.
Speaking to Fotboll Direkt, Gren was asked about the future of Dahlberg, after reports the goalkeeper could leave IFK in the next window: “We’ve obviously had dialogue with Pontus and his agent. We know that his representatives met clubs in Europe and I have also talked to several clubs about him.
“But what’s happening in January I do not know right now, there is no concrete proposal on the table. As I understand, he would like to remain until the summer anyway.”
Watford are one of the clubs in the race to sign Dahlberg, but they will face competition from Napoli and RB Leipzig.
The player is highly rated in Sweden, and he’s already established himself as IFK’s No.1 despite his young age.
It’s likely Watford and the other interested clubs would have to break the transfer record for a Swedish goalkeeper if they sign him next month or in the summer.
