Despite making a handful of appearances for Manchester City, Pablo Maffeo, with the arrivals of Kyle Walker and Danilo at the club, was once again sent to Girona FC for the season to get regular game time.

Since, the 20-year-old has been near ever present in the La Liga side, and has been lauded for his performances, helping the newly promoted side surprise everyone with their current seventh spot in the league.

In fact, his ability on the pitch has been so impressive that rumblings of a possible return to Manchester City have already circulated, especially with the club’s current situation at full-back.

However, down the Spanish side’s end, no one has heard anything about, as explained by the club’s director of football, Quique Carcel, to Mundo Deportivo on Tuesday.

He said: “I don’t have any news about whether Pablo can leave the club and return to Manchester City. Here, we’re never talked about it. I think it would be harmful to the player’s development.

“Now we’re talking about a player who has taken a step forward and has a great amount of development to play in the most ambitious teams. He’s understood that he needs to work everyday to become better”.

The only Manchester City loanee to be getting regular time on the pitch at Girona, Maffeo is certainly on the right track back in La Liga, and although Guardiola does need defensive reinforcements in January, the last thing he’ll want to do is hinder a youngster’s progress.

On the other hand, the club might want to consider the futures of Aleix Garcia, Douglas Luiz, Marlos Moreno and Olarenwaju Kayode, as they aren’t getting the time on the pitch they need.
