On November 4th, Arsenal confirmed Edu Gaspar resigned from his position as the club’s technical director with immediate effect.
The Premier League side have to find the Brazilian’s replacement and a few directors have already been linked.
This includes Real Sociedad sporting director Robert Olabe, who will leave the La Liga side at the end of this season.
Last month, we covered claims from Spain which stated Arsenal are very interested in the 57-year-old. It was also reported the Gunners have made an offer to him.
Fichajes.com now state the Spaniard has moved up the Premier League side’s agenda.
Olabe played a key role in shaping La Real’s squad in recent years and his future beyond this season could be at the north London club.
He feels ‘captivated’ by the offer made by Arsenal, who have a ‘tremendous ambition’. The report adds the director ‘would accept’ the challenge of moving to the English club, to work closely with Mikel Arteta.
It’s further claimed talks between Olabe and Arsenal are advanced, but it’s not yet a done deal. Fichajes.com say the official’s real intention is yet to be decided, indicating he has to make the final decision over joining Arsenal.
