Borussia Monchengladbach assistant manager Oliver Neuville has admitted it will be hard for them to keep Marcus Thuram, amid interest from the likes of Aston Villa.
Thuram has been impressing in the Bundesliga this season, with ten goals and three assists in 15 games so far.
That’s led to a lot of interest in his signature, particularly as his current contract is set to expire in June next year and he could become available on a free transfer at that point.
There is also the prospect of a cheap deal in the January transfer window, with Gladbach keen to secure a sale if they can’t get a renewal.
Aston Villa have been named as one of the Frenchman’s suitors, with them expected to be busy in January and provide Unai Emery with funds to shape the squad he inherited from Steven Gerrard.
Several reports have made it clear they are interested, with Villa named as one of the sides to pay attention to in January.
That was followed by an explanation of how they may have been handed an advantage over the competition, before it was then claimed they could bid as early as January.
The prospect of a move in the winter window has been steadily growing for months and now one of his coaches has admitted that Gladbach will find it tough to keep him amid interest from the likes of Aston Villa.
“He’s having a great season, he scored a lot of goals,” he told Radio Sportiva, relayed by Calciomercato.
“It’s clear that last year he may have been injured a lot, but he still has a contract until the end of the season.
“I think it will be difficult for him to stay at Gladbach because if he continues to score so many goals it is certain that he will have many offers in Italy or Spain or England.
“You also have to be a bit realistic. I hope he stays here at Monchengladbach, but now he has also been called up by the French national team for the World Cup.
“It will be difficult for him to extend his contract, I hope so, but the chances are slim.”
