Ivo Grbić was linked with a move to Sheffield United for much of the winter market, finally completing the switch from Atletico Madrid at the end of January.
The transfer dragged on for longer than those involved will have wanted, and the player has now explained his side of things and given reasons for the delays.
Speaking to Croatia’s Večernji List, the goalkeeper was asked about his January transfer to Sheffield United and the Premier League, and brought up all the difficulties.
“It was a very difficult situation in Atletico Madrid. They didn’t want to let me go and that negotiation was very stressful. After arriving in England, I had several days of medical examinations. I had some kind of problem, but later, during additional examinations in London, they found that everything was fine. It turned out that I got over a strong virus. Later I spent a few days dealing with visa issues.”
Brought in to help the Blades avoid a drop to the Championship, Grbić was thrown into the team but then suffered a head injury which saw a spell out of the squad.
He’s explained some of the details behind that and why he had to take the medical advice given: “When I got hit, I thought it was no big deal. But the club doctor saw that something was wrong and forbade me to continue the match. According to my answers to his questions, he noticed the symptoms of a concussion.
“We even had a small conflict on the field because I wanted to continue the game. But when I came to the bench, I immediately felt a headache and dizziness. The doctor was right and it’s good that I listened to him.”
Grbić is excited to return to action for Sheffield United ahead of the Arsenal match, and seems genuinely happy with his January decision and the place he now finds himself.
Asked about Sheffield itself as a city, he only had good things to say and is already getting into a routine.
