Bilal El Khannouss spent five years at KRC Genk before arriving at Leicester City in the summer.

The attacking midfielder has scored three goals and registered four assists from 23 games for the Foxes so far. This includes a winner in Leicester’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on January 26th.

Het Laatste Nieuws state the 20-year-old has become a fan favourite at Leicester and is seen as one of the key players to help them avoid relegation.

The Premier League club are currently 18th in the table, two points behind 17th placed Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Morocco international won the Belgian league’s ‘Promise of the Year’ award yesterday. HLN state he becomes the third player after Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans and Charles De Ketelaere to win the award twice.

El Khannouss beat De Ketelaere by a point to win it for the first time in 2022. This time, he finished four points ahead of his former Genk teammate, Matte Smets.

The Leicester player was at the Jupiler Pro League side only in the first half of last year but still managed to win the individual award. El Khannouss told HLN he wasn’t expecting to win it this time.

“Honestly, I didn’t expect this at all. Of course I am very happy with this award,” he said.

“I want to thank Racing Genk, the players, staff, medical staff and especially the fans. Thanks to them I was able to make a nice step to the biggest league in the world. Thank you everyone!”
