Anthony Martial to Juventus has been bubbling in the Italian media for a while.
Failing to truly cement himself as a Manchester United star under Jose Mourinho, Martial’s future has been called into question repeatedly, and more so since Alexis Sanchez arrived from Arsenal in January.
There’s been multiple claims of talks taking place, and even that Martial’s agent has held a meeting with Juventus, something the representative denied.
Not being an ever present under Mourinho, Martial’s place in France’s World Cup squad is under genuine question, and Didier Deschamps may choose to go for other options.
The France manager spent a chunk of his career at Juventus and, speaking to Turin newspaper Tuttosport, has been asked about Martial potentially leaving Old Trafford for the club.
Asked about the potential move, Deschamps said: “Martial has a contract with United and the club does not want to sell him. Then let’s see if he will be looked for, by Juventus or by someone else.”
That was a bit boring, so Tuttosport pressed more, wanting to know what happens if Martial asks for advice: “I do not give advice, I give my opinion. Then, eventually, it is up to the players to decide.”
Then Tuttosport asked if that’s what happened with Blaise Matuidi, who joined Juventus from PSG last summer. Now Deschamps wasn’t able to hold back the hint of what he really thinks: “Let’s say it will be my opinion… (laughs) then it depends if they listen to it or not.”
Being national manager, Deschamps can’t say outright it may be best for Martial to leave Manchester United, but if the attacker does look for a new adventure, then it’s a good bet Juventus will be enthusiastically endorsed by the France boss.
