Developments have been made on Siem de Jong to Ajax, reports De Telegraaf’s Mike Verweij.

The Dutch journalist has excellent connections to Ajax and those in charge of transfers at the club, and on Monday morning tweeted that De Jong is set to sign a contract with the Eredivisie club.

De Jong’s move from Newcastle United to Ajax had been much rumoured in the Dutch media last week, but with Ajax in something of a crisis mode right now, the club didn’t get around to finalising the deal as quickly as they’d hoped.

Rafael Benitez doesn’t see De Jong as part of his core Newcastle plans for the Premier League season, and the club have therefore been flexible with the move.

The 28 year old will leave St James’ Park to sign a three year contract with Ajax, and it’s all going to be sorted out on Monday afternoon.

Newcastle Untied fans will hope this is a case of one in and one out, and De Jong will be replaced quickly.
