This morning, Portuguese newspaper Record featured a front page saying Sporting have an agreement in principle for the signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers fullback Ruben Vinagre.
With the Lions struggling to afford a permanent move, as Wolves demanded €20m at one stage, the report claimed it was more likely the player would arrive on a loan deal, although there was no information on a potential buying option.
Now it’s time for Rádio Renascença to report the agreement. They claim the deal is nearly done and bring a few more details on the transfer.
The outlet says Vinagre will move to Sporting on a one-year spell, and the Portuguese side will have a buying option of around €10m.
In case the clause is triggered, Wolves will keep the percentage of a future move, and Radio Renascença says only ‘details’ are left for the transfer to be confirmed.
Ruben Vinagre had already spent the last season on loan. He first moved to Olympiacos, where he didn’t have a great adaptation, and then moved to his home country, where he did a good second half of season at Famalicão.
His good form this year is what drew the interest from Benfica and Sporting, and even though the Portuguese media many times said the Eagles had his signing ‘controlled’, it seems it’s the Lions who won the race.
