Earlier on Wednesday, Watford announced the signing of Matheus Martins from Fluminense.
In a short statement on the club’s website, it was only claimed the attacker is already training with the squad and set to be available for the club from January 2023.
This move is also being covered by the Brazilian media, and it’s just interesting how their take is completely different.
Globo Esporte today features a long story claiming Fluminense agreed to a deal with Udinese, who are spending €9m on the signing, including bonuses, and letting the Rio de Janeiro side keep 10% of a future sale.
According to their story, the Serie A side are loaning Martins to Watford, and it’s not yet clear how long this spell will be.
Still speaking of Udinese, Globo Esporte writes the Italian interest in the player is ‘old’, as Fluminense had already turned down two offers from them in the middle of the year.
They first tried with bids worth €5m and €6m, and now that the agreement is done, the Pozzo family are moving him somewhere else.
Going straight to Watford, Martins has already arrived in England and is currently sorting himself there as he waits to be registered at the start of January.
What is also interesting is that, when announcing the sale on their official website, Fluminense never named the club he’s going to.
That only makes the situation weirder, as if Watford and Udinese don’t want to make the things clear.
