João Carvalho and Diogo Gonçalves’ departure to Nottingham Forest has made it to most of the Portuguese newspapers today.
Outlets like O Jogo and A Bola have followed the Benfica players’ footsteps at Lisbon airport, even though both of them have refused to speak about the move to the Championship.
The consensus in the Portuguese media is that Carvalho and Gonçalves are having their medicals at Nottingham Forest on Thursday.
The papers also agree on Carvalho’s fee, as the Championship side will be paying €15m for the permanent transfer. Now the numbers around Gonçalves’ loan are a bit more of a mystery.
The Portuguese media had initially suggested the buying option that Forest would have over Gonçalves would make him more expensive than Carvalho.
Record goes against that today, saying it’s €15m that Aitor Karanka’s side will have to pay to keep him at the end of the season.
A Bola explains a bit more of the situation, saying that the Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira still trusts Gonçalves’ potential, and hopes that his performances in England will attract the interest from other local clubs.
According to A Bola, Nottingham Forest can sign him for ‘less than €20m’. The newspaper doesn’t know the exact amount.
